The Process

Design integration is a journey and we support each company as they progress through the six stages of the programme.

We work collaboratively with the CEO and management team through each of the following six stages:

  1. Select

The first stage involves the selection of a company into the Design Integration Programme. This process includes meetings between the company CEO and senior management team, and a Better by Design Business Specialist. Selection criteria will be discussed and, if your company is a good fit for the programme, then the next step is the formal application and assessment process. Following entry into Better by Design, you would choose one of the three private sector Design 360 teams to undertake the Assess and Plan components of the Design Integration Programme.

  2. Assess

The assessment process takes a strategic view across the entire business, addressing all areas of design integration including business strategy, communications, brand design and new product or service development. The Assess stage aims to identify strengths and gaps in your company's existing design capacity, and opportunities for your company to use design more productively.

  3. Plan

The next step is for the Design 360 team, in collaboration with your company and Better by Design, to translate the assessment report findings into a practical action plan. The plan will outline areas and opportunities for design integration and ways these can drive greater value for your company. it will establish clear goals and provide a sequence of next steps.

  4. Resource

As a participant in the Design 360 plan, you would be required to invest time and money. The Resource stage focuses on identifying and prioritising the resources and skills needed to initiate the projects outlined in the plan. Your company will need to consider how best to use your existing resources and to decide what additional support you might need. Typically this may include allocation of leadership responsibilities, appointment of external consultants and allocation of funding.

  5. Execute

The Execute stage is about putting the plan into action. It will require the development of detailed project briefs and might include the selection of specialist external consultants or the appointment of specialists within your company to undertake project work. The Better by Design team will work closely with you to provide advice and mentoring at each step in the process. They will also help you find external specialist mentors where needed.

  6. Extend

The design of your business is never finished. It is a process of constant re-invention and improvement. The purpose of the final stage is to review your company's progress in achieving the Design 360 plan. We work with you to identify the next set of opportunities, help maintain momentum and grow design capability to achieve a higher level of design integration.
