Jane is responsible for inspiring Better by Design customers to build design capability and integrate design across their organisation, therefore increasing heir international competitiveness. Jane works closely with Better by Design's team of lead and specialist Coaches to uncover opportunities for New Zealand businesses to transform themselves, and to build the culture and skills necessary to do so.
Fascinated by the potential in the intersection between customer needs and business goals, Jane has held roles in customer empathy, customer experience, strategy, marketing, and product and service development. A design thinking convert, Jane's most recent role was leading a design and innovation team at a major bank.
John has over 30 years experience as a product designer most recently leading KOHLER Australasia's in-house New Product Development Programme.
He designed the well-known 'Gentle Annie' washing machine control panel technology (more recently known as the 'Smart Drive') at Fisher & Paykel and also developed the renowned WorkZone office furniture range for Criterion.
John helps the programme's clients use design strategically. He also works with the design community to ensure its skill levels are matched to the needs of business, with the aim of encouraging a ready supply of world class designers and design services.
Another focus is the education sector to make sure graduates of design, commerce and engineering courses are up to date with the design needs and capabilities of each profession.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
He spent more than 10 years in the engineering consultancy sector, leading multidisciplinary design teams to deliver infrastructure projects in New Zealand, Australia and Qatar. Peter successfully performed the role of Project Manager on a number of multi-billion dollar urban developments in Qatar. A notable example is Lusail, a luxury coastal development which will accommodate more than 200,000 residents once fully constructed.
Peter was recently awarded an MBA with distinction from Manchester Business School. He is skilled at managing organisational change and is passionate about helping New Zealand businesses excel internationally through the use of design.
Learning Experiences Manager
Lisa has a background in executive support, senior administration and event management roles within a wide range of industries including business coaching, travel, IT and property advisory.
She also has experience working within multi-national companies while she was based in Europe for seven years. Before joining Better by Design, Lisa was working with The Results Group, a respected NZ business coaching company, which made the Deloitte Fast 50 list in 2008.
Nicola began her career in design thinking in the education sector, having led and directed the first post-graduate degree of its kind in New Zealand, the Master of Design Management. She was a member of the senior leadership team of the School of Design at Unitec, Auckland, and its post-graduate board of study, responsible for governance of all post-graduate programmes. Nicola has also been a programme director for an innovation hub whose objective was to foster a climate of innovation between disparate businesses.
Nicola has most recently worked as a senior consultant in organisation development concentrating on leadership, culture and organisation design, primarily coaching leaders to build capability for performance improvement. She has worked closely with both private and public sector customers and has built a deep understanding of their operating environments.
Nicola’s role is to manage our private sector Design Coaches, ensuring they have a good understanding of NZTE Services, the Better by Design programme and are enabled to offer world class services to our customers.
Learning Experiences Programme Manager
Marite is a proud Wellingtonian. She attended College in the capital and went on to study in Psychology in Germany, gaining a Masters degree. She worked for two years at Deutsche Telekom AG, a company with over 250,000 employees. She was working in management development, designing and facilitating induction courses and leadership courses for top tier executives.
Marite first encountered New Zealand Trade and Enterprise at the CeBit in Hannover in March 2005 which inspired her to return to New Zealand. Upon returning, she joined the New Zealand Army as a Psychologist Officer deploying a total of six times from 2008 - 2011.
She joined New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in November as Programme Manager, in the Better by Design team. She is responsible for design & execution of Better by Design Learning Experiences. Marite is passionate about assisting New Zealand to develop, grow and prosper.
